The Season of Pentecost

“While the movement began with Jesus, the birth of the Church is really the Holy Spirit’s doing. That hasn’t changed either. From the day of Pentecost so many years ago, the Holy Spirit has been speaking to her people in all places and all languages. The Holy Spirit is alive in the Church proper in many and various ways, and the Holy Spirit is alive in our church community too. We may not exhibit Pentecostal signs of the Holy Spirit’s presence – we don’t speak in tongues, nor do we “slay in the spirit” as some Christians do. It’s just not our style. The Holy Spirit comes to us in every day, simple ways. The Spirit speaks to us in our relationships with each other, in the Bible read and reflected upon each Sunday, in our music, in the celebration of the sacraments, in the beauty of our space of worship as well as the beauty of the place we live. The Spirit speaks to us when we quiet down, take a deep breath, and remember what matters most in our lives. The Spirit speaks us about love, by love, and through love. The Spirit is always present.”
